Nerja is situated between the Sierras and the Mediterranean Sea about 45 minutes drive East of Malaga.

When you visit Nerja for the first time you cannot help but be captivated by this charismatic resort which still retains much of the traditional Spanish culture and customs rarely found these days on the Costa del Sol.

In the heart of the old town, the quaint cobbled streets and bustling alleyways are abundant with tapas bars, restaurants and shops. For a leisurely tour of the town, you can take a horse and carriage ride or in the evening you can stroll along the Balcon de Europa alongside the Mediterranean and be entertained by the artists and street entertainers who add to the ambiance of this stylish resort.

Beaches

Nerja has many beaches stretching along its coastline which cater for everyones needs whether you are looking for secluded coves or water sports and beach activities.

To the East, Burriana Beach is Nerja´s premier beach and almost a resort in itself. It is a ‘Blue Flag’ beach with many water sports including pedalos, Kayaks, water skiing, scuba diving and snorkelling. It has an excellent choice of restaurants and bars to choose from including several Chiringuitos (beach bars) serving fresh paella and fresh fish cooked over open fires . To the West of Nerja are the beaches of Torrecilla and Playazo which is Nerja´s longest beach and great for a walk or sunbathing with beach bars dotted along the length of the beach.

Attractions & Activities

Nerja's most spectacular attraction is undoubtedly its fascinating caves. They include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains. One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall, where many performances are staged during the summer.

There are many activities available in Nerja and the surrounding area including walking, horse riding, a donkey sanctuary, golf, jeep safaris and water parks. The Costa del Sol boasts several marinas, a theme park, Aquarium, sea life centre, zoo, crocodile park and wildlife adventure park. Skiing and snowboarding in the Sierra Nevada is only one and a half hours drive away.

Excursions

Day excursions by coach further a field can be booked through Dream Espana to Granada, Ronda, Seville, Cordoba, Gibraltar, and even Morocco!

Granada city is only one and a half hours drive from Nerja. The Alhambra Palace with its stunning gardens and architecture is one of the most visited attractions in Spain.

There are 3 cities that are a cultural experience never to be forgotten – Seville, Ronda and Cordoba. These have to be amongst the most beautiful cities in Spain and are within easy reach of Nerja for a great day out.

Gibralter is a popular excursion with a tour of The Rock, meeting the apes and a good selection of shops.

In Morocco you can take a guided tour through the Kasbah and the bazaar, ride on a camel and visit the historic Medina (old town).

Fiestas

Nerja´s residents and visitors alike are able to enjoy the many fiestas and processions that take place during the year, the carnival in February, the Easter processions, San Isidro in May and the fair in October to name just a few!
